There’s definitely a chill in the air and it’s safe to say that Autumn has well and truly arrived. It’s the perfect time to dig out those walking boots and go for a nice evening walk amongst the crisp golden leaves. What better way to embrace the Autumnal season than by also raising money for charity? This October, the Honest team is getting involved in the Big Wildlife Walk, organised by The Wildlife Trust.
The national fundraising event runs from 24th to 30th October and all those involved must walk an impressive 30km throughout the week. You can walk, run, or even cartwheel the distance! Whichever way you fancy completing the distance, those involved receive a sponsorship form where they can invite friends and family to donate to the cause.
Here at Honest, wildlife conservation and sustainability are at the heart of what we do. With so many of our lovely clients creating products that help protect and conserve wildlife, we thought it would be perfect to dig out our walking boots and get stuck in!
Not only will we be getting involved to help towards protecting the planet and the wildlife, the walk will also help us to all work on our fitness and wellbeing. Throughout the week, we will be doing both individual and group walks, not to forget using our fantastic new office toy -the walking desk! To make things more exciting, we’re incorporating a bit of competition amongst the Honest team, seeing who can exceed the 30km and go even further. As they say, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition so we’ve set up a team leaderboard to see who can smash their way to the top!
All proceeds of the walk help to achieve the vision for a wilder future with funds raised from the walk going towards restoring peatlands, creating new wetlands, and planting new underwater seagrass meadows.
Why 30km? The Wildlife Trust is calling for at least 30% of our land and sea to be connected and protected for nature’s recovery by 2030. By making more space for nature to thrive again, we’re able to give our struggling wildlife the chance to recover and restore those beautiful wildlife places that we know and love.
Why not join us and get involved? It’s the perfect opportunity to not only help protect wildlife, but to also get out and about and explore those beautiful countryside spots around Derbyshire. The team will be going on an afternoon outing to Allestree Park, where we’ll not only work towards smashing the 30km target, but also spotting the different habitats the park provides for all of Derbyshire’s wildlife. Allestree Park plans to become home to the UK’s largest urban rewilding project – creating a safe space for wildlife in Derbyshire to thrive. If you’d like to join us on the walk then let us know!
If you would like to donate, we have a Just Giving page here where you can sponsor us. Or if you’d like to go the extra mile and join the walk yourself, you can find more information and sponsorship forms here. Keep an eye on our socials throughout the week too, to see what we get up to, where we go on our walks and who wins the competition!
